Where other lawyers might see problems, I see opportunities for solutions.
I have practiced law for over 20 years and the past 15 years, I have focused exclusively on divorce and family law cases. I always knew I wanted to be a lawyer. I admired the power that I believed lawyers had to “win” rights for the clients they served. After all, I’ve always been a fighter. I have been knocked down a few times but I always found the strength and determination to get up and get back in the game.
I know what it’s like to get blindsided by life’s circumstances – to feel as if you’ve been punched in the stomach or as if the rug has been pulled from right underneath your feet.
For starters, like many of you, I’ve experienced the pain and loss that comes with ending a long term relationship, even when abuse was involved.
These experiences, however, have made me stronger because I was able to draw on my strength and commitment to change my circumstances. I did not like the feeling of being stuck without the ability to make choices.
This is why, in 1998, I left a large law firm in New York City, where I worked exclusively with large multinational corporations, and chose to start my own law practice in my community in Morris County, New Jersey. I wanted to have the freedom to form a closer personal connection with each client and have a meaningful impact on their lives. Family law was a natural fit.
As my practice grew, however, I began to see more and more that when people choose to have the court impose legal obligations on them, they relinquish their ability to make their own choices and create results. I saw how the unpredictability of a court’s decision compounded the fear that they were already experiencing as a result of their divorce or separation.
That’s when I became committed to making sure that clients have choices to give them greater control over their own outcomes.
